Birth Story from mummy

The caeserean was not as bad as I have thought. In fact, it was so much better than the previous emergency one I had with Caleb. Although I was really terrified + nervous in the operating theatre and even shed some tears when they put in the drip for me on my left arm and when they give me the spinal block on my back to numb me waist down for the operation. After that, Felix was allowed into the theatre and he sat next to my head. It was all good during the operation, couldn't feel any pain although i could feel the pulls and tugs. Before they delivered Caitlin fully out from my tummy, she already gave up a loud scream! It sounded like a cat! Felix even went to cut her ambilical cord and took some photos too! (He didn't get to do these when I had Caleb!) We had some bonding time with Caitlin in our arms as they start to clear up the mess...delivering the placenta then stitching me up.

I was lucky to be getting the bed right next to the window. At least I get some direct ventilation! Caitlin was put next to me in a bassinet as soon as I was transferred to my bed. I was still on drip and I had the urine bag attached plus a tube draining from the caeserean wound. As such, I was bedridden and I was not allowed to have anything to eat or drink. I did get to suck on some ice at least! And a little bit of water to go with my painkillers. And that was it. I had to look after Caitlin myself and got to breastfeed her every 3 hours. She was so tiny...so fragile...so cute! As I was bedridden, I put her next to me to sleep. Anyway, Felix went back to fetch his mum and Caleb over in the late afternoon to visit me and Caitlin. Caleb wasn't too impressed with Caitlin and he was not willing to touch her. Guess he is unsure who this baby is?!

On day 2, all the things attached to me was taken out and encouraged to walk to the bathroom to take a shower. It was really painful but I still managed to do it! And I am happy that I did! As I am tired being bedridden.

On day 3, only Felix came in the morning to visit. In the afternoon, he had to bring Caleb and his mum to the Wiggles Concert. (I was so disappointed that I couldn't go!) And in the evening, Felix has his graduation ceremony at Telstra Dome.

On day 4, I requested to be discharged as I felt better, another reason is that the shared toilet there is filthy...caused by some inconsiderate ppl! And the 3rd reason is to avoid the nightly stingy jab they give me on my thighs to prevent deep vein thrombosis (blood clot)!

It was nice back home again.

Tomorrow is coming...

10 December 2007, the day my daughter will be born. This day is tomorrow. Time flies so fast eh? I am feeling nervous. Feeling the stress...wonder how I can cope with the new baby in the hospital on my own at night while suffering the pain from caeserean. I really hope the wound will heal faster or rather not as painful as the last time.
My daughter is going to be called Caitlin. Caitlin Choo. Will only know her Chinese name sometime middle of next week, after her grandpa in Singapore get advises from some guy who is experienced in the strokes in Chinese characters...so her name will bring her luck.
Think I won't be able to sleep well tonight...too nervous about the operation. Besides, I am going to miss Caleb so much over those few nights without him by my side. Sigh...

More updates soon after the birth of Caitlin...

The final week...to the big day...

Had my last appointment at the hospital with the midwife earlier today. Everything is well...baby's heartbeat is strong. Baby is in her posterior position (facing my back), same as Caleb the last time. But guess it doesn't really matter now as it's going to be a elective caeserean anyway. Time flies...today is Monday and the following Monday, I will be seeing my daughter!! I am so excited to meet her for the 1st time but at the same time, so scared of the pain I will be experiencing after the surgery.
I remembered the extreme pain I felt after the surgery as I was basically bedridden for 2 days with a drip. I couldn't take care of Caleb for the 2 nights and the midwife had to help me with him at the nurses' station so I can rest. I only managed to get out of bed to the toilet and had a bath on the 3rd day so I took care of Caleb on my own for the next 2 nights before I was discharged on the 5th day. My wound took a long time to heal...almost 3 mths for all the pain to go away and for the wound to dry.
So I hope this round, it will be less painful? I guess it will take a miracle to be painless eh? hehehe...just a wishful thought! But just hope this time, the wound will heal faster.
Guess when I am in the hospital, I will miss Caleb the most! Visitors are only allowed till 8pm while spouse are till 9pm and no one are able to stay overnight. My room in the ward will have 4 ladies so means 4 babies...unless there are some twins? So it will be a pretty crowded room therefore there are restriction in number of visitors. On the 10th, I will have to report to admissions at the Royal Womens Hospital at 645am. Surgery time will be sometime between 8am to 11am. Guess what time my baby will be born? The one who guessed the correct timing will be awarded a mystery gift!

Start guessing! You got 6 days to guess!

Getting so swollen...almost 35weeks!

Up to this stage, I have already put on 20kg! My pre-preggie weight was 50kg, now 70kg...wonder how much more will I be gaining in the next 3 weeks??!! My hands and feets are not as swollen as the last pregnancy but I can't wear my wedding ring anymore. My shoes are still wearable...my feet just dun look good in my sandles...my ugly unpedicured feet/toes! Yucks!

33 weeks checkup

Had my 33 weeks checkup at the hospital with a midwife yesterday. Baby's growing well...am always happy to hear her heartbeat and they sounded great!

Went for a talk in the last evening about caeserean. Now I know what is the difference between a spinal and a epidural. For my caeserean, I will be given a spinal block. It does sound scary this time round although it is all planned out unlike for Caleb, it was an emergency caeserean and everything just went so fast. When I had my epidural, I was already experiencing temendous labour pains therefore couldn't feel the needle going into my spine. This time round, I reckon I will be really tense as I will be concentrating on the needle going right in! But I guess this time the surgery will be faster? The last time, I had complications therefore the surgery lasted much longer so hope this time it is chop-chop and I will be wheeled out to see my baby sooner. *fingers crossed*

Baby has been moving a lot recently. She is really active...trying to do karate kicks and chops inside my belly. I was waiting for her to have her hiccups but she dun seem to wanna do that. Caleb used to have lots of hiccups inside me. It's really cute when he does his hiccups as I can see my belly jump every few seconds.

Anyway, 3 more appointments at the hospital before my big day comes. The next appointment on the 19th Nov is with the Anaesthetist, 23rd Nov with a doctor/ obstetrician and then 3rd Dec with a midwife and then my big day on the 10th Dec! 4 more weeks!!! Counting down....

Can't wait to welcome the new baby

Caleb and I are both excited to welcome the new baby. At almost 32 weeks preggie, I am getting so bloated, huge and heavy now.

Sunday 30 September 2007

The date

The date has been set for c-section on the 10Dec. So the lil one will be born on that day unless she decides to come earlier.

I am at present, 28 weeks into my pregnancy. I have trouble sleeping already due to the constant lower back pain. Besides, with Caleb next to me all night, it is hard to sleep well. Mum in law will be coming over to Melbourne on 10Nov. So at least I get some help around the house...hehehe...and also help with handling Caleb.

I have been sick since last friday. It is probably flu virus with fever on and off till now. Have been popping panadol as often as I can to get rid of the hateful headache and fever. Guess that is the only medication I can take now. Sigh..it seems to be tougher to get rid of illness when you are preggie.

GOOD NEWS!

Finally the day has come to go for my ultrasound to check on the baby. I'm 19weeks+ preggie at this stage. It was such a joy to find out that it's going to be a healthy lil GIRL! We were all smiles leaving the hospital. This shall be my 2nd and last pregnancy I'll be experiencing so I am going to try to enjoy this to the very end. :)

Updates....

I had my cervical survellience done today at the Royal womens hospital this morning. This has to be done for me due to the cervical tear I had during my c-section when I had Caleb which was a tear from my uterus to my cervix, vagina. Because of the severe tear I had, future pregnancies must be monitored closely as my cervix is weak therefore might shortened and cause a miscarriage. Anyway, it was all well during my check up and my cervix was of good length. What a relief!

My ultrasound will be on 31July and should be able to know what gender my baby #2 will be then. I am very excited to find out and I seriously hope this time I will have a girl. :P

This pregnancy has been pretty bad due to the bad morning sickness I had and am still recovering from it. I threw up a lot during my 1st trimester and was so sensitve to lots of smells and food plus I have very poor appetite. The hardest food I couldn't take was garlic as lots of Chinese food has that! My appetite is getting much better nowsdays except I am still not into garlicky stuff.

Anyway, my baby is due 21 Dec 07. Because of my condition, I will be having a c-section again. Hope this time, I will recover faster so I can take care of my new lil one as well as my sticky Caleb.

More updates soon!

My First Post

Hello World!

This is my first post to the rest of the world.

As you noticed, I haven't make up my mind whether I want to be a girl or a boy yet.. but I soon will have to. Daddy and Mummy also haven't give me a name yet because of this. But that will happen fairly soon.

My Kor kor is helping me out with the blog while I am still in Mummy's tummy.

Keep checking back... I hope to be seeing you soon!
