Birth Story from mummy

The caeserean was not as bad as I have thought. In fact, it was so much better than the previous emergency one I had with Caleb. Although I was really terrified + nervous in the operating theatre and even shed some tears when they put in the drip for me on my left arm and when they give me the spinal block on my back to numb me waist down for the operation. After that, Felix was allowed into the theatre and he sat next to my head. It was all good during the operation, couldn't feel any pain although i could feel the pulls and tugs. Before they delivered Caitlin fully out from my tummy, she already gave up a loud scream! It sounded like a cat! Felix even went to cut her ambilical cord and took some photos too! (He didn't get to do these when I had Caleb!) We had some bonding time with Caitlin in our arms as they start to clear up the mess...delivering the placenta then stitching me up.

I was lucky to be getting the bed right next to the window. At least I get some direct ventilation! Caitlin was put next to me in a bassinet as soon as I was transferred to my bed. I was still on drip and I had the urine bag attached plus a tube draining from the caeserean wound. As such, I was bedridden and I was not allowed to have anything to eat or drink. I did get to suck on some ice at least! And a little bit of water to go with my painkillers. And that was it. I had to look after Caitlin myself and got to breastfeed her every 3 hours. She was so tiny...so fragile...so cute! As I was bedridden, I put her next to me to sleep. Anyway, Felix went back to fetch his mum and Caleb over in the late afternoon to visit me and Caitlin. Caleb wasn't too impressed with Caitlin and he was not willing to touch her. Guess he is unsure who this baby is?!

On day 2, all the things attached to me was taken out and encouraged to walk to the bathroom to take a shower. It was really painful but I still managed to do it! And I am happy that I did! As I am tired being bedridden.

On day 3, only Felix came in the morning to visit. In the afternoon, he had to bring Caleb and his mum to the Wiggles Concert. (I was so disappointed that I couldn't go!) And in the evening, Felix has his graduation ceremony at Telstra Dome.

On day 4, I requested to be discharged as I felt better, another reason is that the shared toilet there is filthy...caused by some inconsiderate ppl! And the 3rd reason is to avoid the nightly stingy jab they give me on my thighs to prevent deep vein thrombosis (blood clot)!

It was nice back home again.

Hello World!

I am Caitlin Choo, daughter of Felix and Anne. And I have just been brought out into this world from my mummy tummy today! Daddy is obviously happy and keep taking photos - my eyes are all blurry from Daddy's flash already....

Anyway, here are some first pictures of me!

Tomorrow is coming...

10 December 2007, the day my daughter will be born. This day is tomorrow. Time flies so fast eh? I am feeling nervous. Feeling the stress...wonder how I can cope with the new baby in the hospital on my own at night while suffering the pain from caeserean. I really hope the wound will heal faster or rather not as painful as the last time.
My daughter is going to be called Caitlin. Caitlin Choo. Will only know her Chinese name sometime middle of next week, after her grandpa in Singapore get advises from some guy who is experienced in the strokes in Chinese characters...so her name will bring her luck.
Think I won't be able to sleep well tonight...too nervous about the operation. Besides, I am going to miss Caleb so much over those few nights without him by my side. Sigh...

More updates soon after the birth of Caitlin...

The final week...to the big day...

Had my last appointment at the hospital with the midwife earlier today. Everything is well...baby's heartbeat is strong. Baby is in her posterior position (facing my back), same as Caleb the last time. But guess it doesn't really matter now as it's going to be a elective caeserean anyway. Time flies...today is Monday and the following Monday, I will be seeing my daughter!! I am so excited to meet her for the 1st time but at the same time, so scared of the pain I will be experiencing after the surgery.
I remembered the extreme pain I felt after the surgery as I was basically bedridden for 2 days with a drip. I couldn't take care of Caleb for the 2 nights and the midwife had to help me with him at the nurses' station so I can rest. I only managed to get out of bed to the toilet and had a bath on the 3rd day so I took care of Caleb on my own for the next 2 nights before I was discharged on the 5th day. My wound took a long time to heal...almost 3 mths for all the pain to go away and for the wound to dry.
So I hope this round, it will be less painful? I guess it will take a miracle to be painless eh? hehehe...just a wishful thought! But just hope this time, the wound will heal faster.
Guess when I am in the hospital, I will miss Caleb the most! Visitors are only allowed till 8pm while spouse are till 9pm and no one are able to stay overnight. My room in the ward will have 4 ladies so means 4 babies...unless there are some twins? So it will be a pretty crowded room therefore there are restriction in number of visitors. On the 10th, I will have to report to admissions at the Royal Womens Hospital at 645am. Surgery time will be sometime between 8am to 11am. Guess what time my baby will be born? The one who guessed the correct timing will be awarded a mystery gift!

Start guessing! You got 6 days to guess!
